Hollywood, California’s Hostile Groove create a barrage of thick-ass, heavy as hell guitar rhythms backed by superbly
arranged vocals. Guitarist and vocalist Shawn McPherson and company have put together a gem of a release with “Unleash
The Massattack”.
EI: Your album artwork shows a target placed
on a map of the Unites Stated. What message are you trying to convey here?
HG: “It could be taken many ways.
The title “Unleash The Massattack” could mean Hostile Groove will unleash its music to the masses, which is a
more peaceful way of looking at it. Another way which is kind of a pun is that most of the band is from Massachusetts and
that and that’s where the Massattack comes from. I guess a political point of view would be, try not to be a pessimist,
we’re all gonna die someday, whether it be tomorrow or centuries from now. So we may want to figure out what to do before
that happens and make the best of it. So that’s what the “Is it too late” target over the United
States means, is it too late,” the frontman explains.
EI: Do you actually think we have a political
system in the United States which actually works for the people?
HG: “The last thing I wanna do is
bite the hand that feeds me, because we are all blessed to be in the United States, but that doesn’t mean we are the
most righteous county in the world. “We try to stay away from a super political message” he points out.
EI: You have a song about smoking weed
on your record, do you feel that weed should be legalized for those who want to use it.
HG: “If weed was legalized, it would
take a lot of fun out of it, but at the same time, only in comparison to alcohol do I think it should be legalized. Read The Emperor Wears No Cloths, good book about the so called drug. This is all just my preference and opinion. I love marijuana, I hardly drink, weed is my drug of choice……
to each their own.” Shawn admits.
EI: How far do you wanna take Hostile Groove
in terms of a career move?
HG: “Well, the sky’s the limit.
I’d love to go all the way with it. Our first goal would be being able to pay rent with Hostile Groove income of coarse
which isn’t happening yet, but out confidence is up! Hostile Groove is the main vent in our lives, it’s the main
art inside us. We’d love to rule the world with it, but if we can at least get the rent paid then I’m satisfied!”
the guitarist/vocalist reckons.
